Windows Live Writer Impression
This is my second post using live writer and I think I will stick with it for a long long time, it's simply WONDERFUL.
You know what's funny. Web application is suppose to make things easier and that's why I choose web development as my profession. Yet, I'm back to this fat client because it's simply easier to use ESPECIALLY when it interacts with a web client. The combination of the two in my opinion is the future.
Here are a few reasons that impresses me
- Easy Authoring - I get to choose from the "Weblog" dropdown menu on which blog I want to write to...
,
No need to wait for page load, navigate around the web menus, click create new and what not.
- Centralized - I have multiple blogs hosted on multiples sites. I get to aggregate all those blogs within Live Writer and with a simple switch, I get to write for a different blog for a different site. No more logging into different sites for authoring.
- Drag and Drop - I could simply drag and drop an image into this post and forget about the rest because I'm writing here on my desktop. No more manual image upload is needed. (see reason below)
- Build In FTP - Images are auto uploaded to a FTP folder you configured.
- Image Effects - you can easily add water mark to your posted image, rotate your images and all that.
- Spell Check - Now I don't have a reason to not do spell check. :)
- Easy Publish - When you are done, click publish and it'll upload your post, FTP your images and when done, shows your blog in your default browser :)
- Reduced # of Steps - I no longer need to log in and log out every single time when I post. I no longer have to visit different sites to blog. I no longer have to upload images first before I write a blog or as I write a blog. I no longer have to stick with a big textarea and click "preview" to see how it looks like (even if your web editor is WYSIWYG editor, it still doesn't look as nicely as in your native windows environment)
- Increased user experience, better usability - with reasons above, enough said.
- Improved productivity - I get to write more blogs in lesser time.
Though, I would like to have additional features such as
- Auto download blogs belonged to a user from a blog engine. (currently, you have to setup each blog one by one)
- Insert Images using original size
I can't believe I just blogged this post with screen shot in less than a few minutes. Absolutely fantastic.
